Everyday braid care

The aim is to reduce friction while you sleep, not immobilise the hairstyle. A scarf, durag or bonnet should hold the braids comfortably without pressing on the front hairline or temples.

Check that the braids are dry before covering them. If the accessory leaves marks, hurts or pulls at your edges, loosen it or choose another way to secure your hair.

• Gather the lengths without bending them sharply.
• Check that the elastic or edge does not press on your skin.
• Do not cover the braids while they are still damp.
• Wash your sleep scarf or bonnet too.

There is no single washing schedule that suits everyone. Sweat, oil, flakes, odour or product build-up are signs that it is time to wash. Clean the scalp along the partings and rinse thoroughly.

More product does not mean better care. Before applying anything, identify the problem you want to solve and follow the product label. Avoid adding more to the partings if you can already see residue.

Frizz is a normal cosmetic change. If it comes with persistent itching, stinging or irritation, do not try to cover it with oil, mousse or styling product: check the tension and the condition of the scalp.
